Taste Love: Frog Hollow Tavern

For my last night in town my mom and stepfather treated me to a delicious Southern night out at Frog Hollow Tavern in Augusta, GA. The farm to table concept is nothing new in foodie cities, but chef Sean A. White’s vision is an oasis in a sea of old school standbys. Located in the gentrified center of downtown Augusta, Frog Hollow takes its moniker from the historic area in which it’s located. From the homey bluegrass music piped into the dining room to our sweet Southern server Gene, the place exudes modern mixed with comfort. We began our evening with their oyster special on an arugula salad and lump crab cake… basic, i know, but we go classic in my fam, and they were amazing! Then on to the main course, which were all delish, but everyone agreed my choice ruled face: slow roasted pork shoulder with smoked gouda mac and cheese and collards with a port wine reduction. Mmmmmmm. The barbeque sauce was the perfect mix of sweet and sour, with heavy smoke notes coming from the pork. Smoked gouda mac and cheese? Um, please, and thank you in advance. The collards might be my favorite of all… fancy, but you know they threw some ham bone up in there as to not offend the Southerner in their guests. (If you’re from the South you know what I’m talkin’ bout here). Polishing it all off with some La Crema Pinot Nior, some sweet tea to replace water, creme brulee, and flourless chocolate tart. Yep, I’m full people, and I like it. So, when your dad/hubby/boyfriend/self suggests heading to the old dirty dirty for a little Master’s tournament viewing make sure you make a reservation at this gem of a tavern because the drive alone is worth it!
