Sulla Mode: Sweet Sweaters

After the initial sadness of saying good-bye to my flip-flops passes after temperatures drop, I get excited for cold weather layering. Time to dust off our old faithful cold weather wardrobe piece:  the sweater.

Sweaters are so versatile. They can be worn with or without an outer layer and can easily be worn over other layering pieces to be removed when inside temps escalate. I adore them. I really do. They dress up a pair of jeans or dress down a pair of wool pants. They pull together a mismatched ensemble, or add color to an otherwise drab, monotone look. Sweaters save the day!

This season offers endless styles, but today I’m sharing four of my favorite trends:  Hi-Lo hem sweaters, striped sweaters, cropped sweaters, and sequined-sweatshirt sweaters.

Hi-Lo hemmed sweaters play with they eye and add a playful element to an outfit. Hi-Lo sweaters get their name from the high hem in the front, and the low hem in the back. My favorite hi-low sweaters are in chunky knits.

I don’t know if stripes will EVER go out of style, but they sure have been, and continue to be all the rage. I like my stripes in darker tones to play down the pattern a touch.

I think cropped sweaters are my favorite sweater trend this season. They look so good with both skinny and flared jeans (and some killer platform wedges). Just be sure to take care when picking your bottom layer. You’ll want something long enough to show off and exaggerate the cropped hem. Consider a contrasting color for even more of an exaggeration.

What better way to dress up an otherwise casual piece than by splashing on some sequins? I’m all about the sequin-sweatshirt sweaters this season. They are so fun and can easily worn day or night, depending on your jeans and shoes. Day:  pair with some flared jeans and Vans. Night:  dark skinny jeans and tall stilettos. Sexy!
